About me and my work.
I am a contemporary visual artist working across painting, printmaking, and sculpture. My painting practice is intuitive and exploratory, allowing images to emerge rather than starting with a fixed plan.
At the heart of my work is a genuine love of making—spending time with materials, following ideas as they develop, and allowing space for the unexpected. I’m especially drawn to those moments when a painting starts to take on a life of its own, when a chance mark or shape becomes the beginning of something familiar and expressive.
When I begin a wildlife painting, I don’t always have a specific animal in mind; instead, I respond to shapes that appear within loose, spontaneous marks. Through careful looking and the gradual layering of drawing media and oil or acrylic paint, these forms are slowly brought into focus.
Much of my inspiration comes from the wildlife I’m lucky enough to encounter close to home. Animals appear in my work as instinctive, recognisable forms that reflect our shared environment. Rather than focusing on exact detail, I aim to convey presence, character, and mood.
Backgrounds play an important role, creating space for movement and ambiguity, and allowing each subject to feel discovered rather than imposed.
Each piece reflects an ongoing balance between control and chance, clarity and uncertainty, inviting the viewer to pause and connect with the spirit of nature.

Artist's Statement
Artist's Bio
Originally trained as a graphic designer and illustrator, I began my career in traditional realism through wildlife art and portrait painting. In recent years my practice has become more exploratory, using mixed media to create semi-abstract wildlife pieces. Alongside painting, I experiment with printmaking and sculptural processes, which continually inform and refresh my studio work.
My work is exhibited in galleries across Scotland, and I have presented regular solo exhibitions since 2007.
I have taken part in North East Open Studios annually since 2022 and currently volunteer as Vice Chair. My work has featured in exhibitions and fairs including Aberdeen Art Fair, Art Aboyne, Mind, Body, Spirit and Eden Court Theatre, as well as international online shows with The Inverarity Gallery.
In 2024 I was selected to paint a giant hare sculpture as part of The Big Hop Trail in aid of CLAN Cancer Support.
In 2018 I was longlisted for the Jackson’s Open Painting Prize (Portraits), Highly Commended in SAA Artist of the Year for a self-portrait, and received the People’s Choice Award at Moray Art Centre’s Spring Exhibition.
In 2013 I wrote and illustrated The Girl in The Red Dress Book of Inspiration.
I’ve taught workshops and tutored for art groups across Moray from 2007–2025 and now offer occasional private tutoring.
I’m mostly self taught but additional training includes study at The London Atelier of Representational Art, workshops with Vic Bearcroft and Will Kemp, and professional development with Nicholas Wilton and Louise Fletcher. I hold a BTEC in Graphic Design.
I regularly take part in art events, inviting visitors to engage with work as it develops. I value sharing materials, techniques and conversation, and aim to keep my practice open, engaging and approachable.
