Well, after the walrus Magnus came to visit, it seemed only right that I paint him.

Earlier this year, a very unexpected visitor caused quite a stir around our part of the world when a young walrus turned up along several parts of the Moray Coastline.

I was fortunate enough to see him for myself at Hopeman. It got me thinking how extraordinary it is when wildlife suddenly appears somewhere completely unexpected and how quickly we become fascinated by an individual animal.

I wanted to capture something of his curious character, he seemed so unfazed by the hubbub going on around him as he rested and stretched in the sun at the harbour.
